Bathe in Sound at the Hafen Akademie, Mülheim

The Hafenakademie in Köln-Mülheim hosts classes, promotes, supports and initiates cultural events and social engagement. Until April 2020 many of the classes are also free to attend.

I attended "Klangbaden" there on Saturday, which was led by Waskhar Schneider.

The class took place in the "Lokschuppen": a renovated warm open barn-like space with an acoustic character ideal for experiencing a meditative journey around the world.


Drums, singing bowls, flutes and other artefacts from around the globe are used along with vocal techniques to create an acoustic canvas with Native American, Tibetan and aboriginal influences.

What I liked also was that the experience was not static. While playing Waskhar walked slowly around the open space. With my eyes closed that moment added an extra dimension to the soundscape.
